Ashoka Youth Venture is a community of young changemakers in 23 countries across the globe. The Ashoka Youth Venture programme is at the epicentre of Ashoka's global efforts for transforming childhood and youth years. We identify, support and amplify the work of teenagers who are championing solutions to social and environmental problems. The team also partners with schools, institutions, and organisations invested in channelling youth potential to address South Asia's most pressing challenges.
India has over 350 million people between the ages of 10 and 24. With global socio-economic trends like ageing population, forth industrial revolution, and interdisciplinarity in academics we need Indian teens to become Changemakers who exercise autonomy and lead fluid teams. Read more about the need for Changemaker Skills in McKinsey & Company's recent study on the future of work.
The Ashoka Youth Venture South Asia team works primarily in India, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka on a range of initiatives focussed on helping every teenager in the region self-identify as a changemaker. In the last three years, the team has built a network of 150+ Ashoka Young Changemakers through eight selection panels in India, two in Bangladesh and one in Sri Lanka. These teenagers are changing the narrative of what youth in the region aspire for and are influencing their schools and communities to work towards an Everyone a ChangemakerTM world.
The team also conducts Changemaker Days in Schools to influence school environments and make them conducive for youth-led initiatives. Ashoka Sri Lanka also runs Youth Ambassadors programme - a peer to peer mentorship initiative that puts the youth in-charge.
